5April10 - The village of Tredavoe

This delightful village is so close to Newlyn and Penzance and yet so remote. I remember my scout troop leader lived on a farm there. He was called Billy Tippet and he used to refer to the village as 'Dava' or 'Davas', I think. No-one is sure of the meaning of the name. It may mean 'Homestead (Tre) + on (war)' + whatever 'Davo' is or may have been, judging by earlier forms of the name.
