This is the largest Dhofar Rebelllion artillery base run by the Sultans; Armed Forces. Coordinates:
16*52.40 N and 53*20.92.30E.
We visited it three times, on the last occasion we had a local farmer drive over to us. Upon meeting he started to shout,in Arabic, gesticulte and wave his hand around pointing to the general area. We tried to say hullo but he just kept pointing down a valley. Then he said Gamel (camel)- BOOSH!!, then Sierra (car) - BOOSH!! then describing a fountain like shape with his hands. It took a nano asecond for us to realise he mant the the area was mined!!
We found out later that as the Sultan's forces pulled out of the bases, the Adoo , that is the rebels were sneaking in and laying British Mk 7 anti tank mines. Not all had been cleared it seems! needless to say, we never went back or visited any more of such bases.
