Breakwater, St Ives

The remains of Trevithick's breakwater, and of the 1864 timber pier. It was in this area that the old pier was started, the one that existed before 1764, as St Leonard's chapel has been there since c1500, and so that area of harbour wall has to have been there as well since that date; the old pier shows on the etching of 1765 in the St Ives gallery.
