The sparrow is declining dramatically and is now red listed. We are lucky here to have large familes of up to 50 birds, but it is vital to have chirping males; the numbers have fallen by 60% over the last 25 years, much of which occurred in 2005. Their diet of grain is now in decline as human use, coupled with extending housing and factory development, as well as the advance of mobile phones (according to some research) and a growing sparrow hawk population.
