The launch Vanguard in 1950.
I think this was owned by Matt Lethbridge.
[Open to correction].
Coming in to St Mary's Harbour in damp weather,
but the boat is full of smiles.
Second standing (behind) from bow, is Lewellyn Hitchens, my cousin.
There was a Vanguard around in the mid sixties, different owner, powered by an old four cylinder Kelvin petrol and paraffin engine. Remembered for its reliability if ‘pandered’ to. The pandering and distinct running sound I rediscovered on U Tube again this morning.
Thank you - I have such vague memories of some of these pictures, the owner could well be another person, but the date here is certain (give or take a couple of years). Presumably the same vessel as the one that you remember.
I think pampered was what I had in mind on the first comment.
I should recognise that stern of the Vanguard , but to be honest I’m not sure. When I was there she was owned by the Thompsons and run by one of Jeff’s sons.
Fred Ticehurst has been of great help as regards other vessels, perhaps I should contact Frank Thompson s son when next over there, or the museum, to see what information there is.
