At Porthleven preparing the detergent to tackle the oil spill from the Torrey Canyon. The super tanker carrying oil ran aground on rocks between Land's End and the Scilly Isles in 1967.
Later in a desperate bit to stem the oil spill the Government gave the go ahead to bomb the ship in the hope to bur the oil. The operation was a complete disaster and one of the biggest maritime contamination disasters the world had seen up to that point.
