RED DUCHESS

Now owned by Taylor and Taylor of Troon, as of 2005, when she acquired her present name.

Her current course after leaving Mount’s Bay is for Waterford.

She is a general cargo vessel, carrying timber from Scottish Ports, and as such is one of the last of these.
Built in 1969 by Scheepswerf Hoogezand, Bergum (Yard Nr 152); IMO 6919851; Callsign MHGB6.
Launched as Geertien Bos, completed as Valdes;

Names - 1973 Bell Cavalier, 1974 Valdes, 1975 Bell Cavalier, 1978 Minitrans, 1986 Aasland, 2005 Red Duchess.
Engine (unknown) single screw at 11.5 knots.
1,285 grt; 1,359 dwt.
248.36 x 36.09 x 11.61 feet.
Good to see transport by ship is still very much alive. Far too much is sent by road these days.
