How exactly do you build on top of sheer rock like that? Don t buildings need foundations?! :eek:
 
The best foundation is solid rock ... the concrete is to form a level base on ground which is insufficient to take loads without settlement ... as us modern types do all the time and if it is done badly, then differential settlement takes place. Hence cracked walls. On rock, the load is taken straight to Mother Earth.
 
I love the way the castle looks as if it is rising out of the rock as the granite is the same colour. The castle at Carn Brea is similar
 
In the top right is the window of the Chevy Chase - note the difference between the stone at that level and the stone walls of the Armoury below. I have some pictures of the Chevy Chase to follow.The stonework helps to tell the storey as well as the story.
