Mark McGee, 47, from Germoe, near Penzance, broke into the home of an elderly man near Penryn and attacked his carer, Truro Crown Court heard.
He bound and gagged her before robbing her and carrying out a violent sex assault during the attack in September.
He was traced after a distinctive van he used for his dog grooming business was seen in a layby, the court heard.
Indecent photographs McGee kicked open the door to the man's home and put a knife to the carer's throat.
After the assault he took indecent photographs of the woman on his mobile phone and threatened to show them if she told anyone, the court heard.
McGee admitted two charges of a serious sexual offence and was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.
He was also jailed for three years for robbery, the sentence to be served concurrently.
McGee was found not guilty of two charges of rape, which he had denied.
Jailing McGee, Judge Christopher Elwen told him he had left his victim severely traumatised and was a "significant risk to others".
