Police 'very close' to finding missing Sian O'Callaghan

Police investigating the disappearance of a woman after she left a Swindon nightclub believe they are "very close" to identifying her whereabouts.
Sian O'Callaghan, 22, went missing on Saturday after failing to return home.
Det Supt Steve Fulcher said the search had made "good progress" but would be limited to daylight hours and would be assisted by dog teams on Thursday.
"I believe we are getting very close to identifying Sian's whereabouts," he said.
He added he was not asking for any more public assistance at this stage.

[FONT=&quot]A short time ago a man was arrested on suspicion of the kidnap of Sian O Callaghan and is on route to a police custody centre.

Sian’s family have been informed.

Wilts Police reveal the reward total for info leading to Sian O'Callaghan has risen to £40,000
Detective Superintendent, Steve Fulcher said: ‘I am urgently appealing for any witness sightings of a green Toyota Avensis estate with taxi markings seen between 3:00 - 4:00 am and 12:00 – 9:00 pm on Saturday 19th March 2011 between Swindon and Savernake.’

Anyone who saw the vehicle or who has information is asked to contact police imediately on 0845 408 7000 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 where details may be left annonymously if preferred.
The investigation into the whereabouts of missing Sian O'Callaghan continues at a fast pace and we are now appealing for information regarding items Sian is believed to have had in her handbag.

Her handbag is described as a large dark coloured bag with a beige flower on the side. In her handbag she is likely to have had items very similiar to the following:

· A distinctively patterned front door key
· A black car key with yellow insulation tape
· A Tesco Clubcard key fob
· A yellow kinder egg plastic casing containing a small animal with a furry belly
· Lip gloss

Sian is also believed to have been wearing or have with her a DKNY watch with fake diamonds.

Police have now released a photo of a boot similar to that which Sian O'Callaghan was wearing

UPDATE -
Wiltshire Police would like to make it clear that while the location of two bodies has been identified to the Senior Investigating Officer, only one body has currently been found and this is believed to be Sian O’Callaghan.


The second body has yet to be found.

A 47 year old man from Swindon is in custody having been arrested for kidnap and two murders.

The location of two bodies has been identified to the Senior Investigating Officer. One body is yet to be formally identified but one is believed to be Sian O’Callaghan.
Sian’s family have been informed of this development and are understandably deeply distressed.
The police would ask for time to recover the two bodies with the dignity and respect they deserve and time for Sian’s family to have some peace to grieve.
Wiltshire Police would like to thank the community of Swindon and the media who have made a fantastic effort to find Sian.


Further updates will be issued when we can give more information.
