I am amazed how readily these palms settle in Penzance. Interestingly, I recall Margaret Pollard in a book in the late 40s on Cornwall lamenting the importing of palms to a false habitat for the sake of calling it a 'riviera'. She felt they were out of character with the real Cornwall.
