This was the largest crowd to witness a match at Penlee Park for a long time and several up and coming stars were involved such as Steve MacManahan, Steve Staunton, Phil Thompson, Steve Harkness and Mike Hooper. I have to say that I have seen a crowd just as big for the South Western League Cup in the late 1950s!
