Wolf Rock to the south, a sentinel standing in the middle of nowhere; 49.56N:5.48W; 34 metres high.
First a daymark was built in 1795, then an iron beacon in 1840; the granite lighthouse was begun in 1861 and completed in 1869.
Sea bed lies at 36 fathoms, the base of the rock lies at 19 fathoms.
Inset shows one of the three container ships on course eastwards, on the horizon three miles away; Fishing vessel PZ75 William Harvey is out there as well, heading for the fishing grounds.
