Alex Buchanan Grocery

This grocers is now no more. Situated on the corner of St Francis street for many years. The children from the popular school (St Marys) would walk up the street to buy sweets.
The price we pay for the motor car and superstores, it cuts the heart out of communities.

When Alex s parents, Sandy and Bessie, ran the shop they had the most delicious home-cooked ham. Those were the days!

Personally sliced off the ham, either with a very sharp knife or a disc slicer, with a chat and a smile, and exactly the way you want it - cannot beat it, but it all has to be shrink wrapped and laced with water now.

Remember going to that store for my mum and also to the dairy across the road, ah happy days read#

The Friggens family were friends of my parents; they later moved to Treneere; I loved the smell and taste of milk - out of the churn; different stuff to the watery mix we get now; mother could boil off the cream, and let it set in a tray. Scrummy !!

When at my grandparents house, we would go to that shop and buy traffic light lollipops. Great times.
