The Alexandra Inn (on the left) is more or less as it was, the farmhouse on the right stood where the alley between Mennaye Rd and Bayview Terrace now meets Redinnick Place and the barn would now be 46 Bayview (aka Norton House).

The monument itself now stands just up the road, between the gates at the Pirates RFC car park:

I must have walked past it a thousand times and never realised what it was. :)

Also, the building just above and to the right of the two characters standing together, just behind the line of trees, is 'Rosevale'... Still standing (next to the Magpies F.C. / old fire station on Alexandra Place).

On the horizon just above the farmhouse must be either Bellair or Penalverne (or both) House?

There also exists (in the The Morrab Library - Richards Collection) a photo showing flooding of the low cottages on the left of the frame - yet to be digitised, but on it's way, I'd imagine. I saw this some time ago, but couldn't place the cottages until just now.

Speaking of the The Morrab, they also hold a copy of this image with slightly more detail - which can be found here: http://photoarchive.morrablibrary.org.uk/items/show/4143

Yes that is a better copy. I remember speaking with Sandra Gibson (back in 2008) about her grandfathers collection. A good deal of them ended up being copied and sent about the town. She said that when they moved to the Scilly Isles some of the plates and images were stolen from the Scillonian.
Nice to see a sharp clear representation of history :)

has changed...and I too walked past this many times and never knew it was moved to where it is now, I always thought it looked a bit strange/odd even as it doesn't really suit it being there (or rather have two gate posts either side) :) xx

Just noticed this, posted a while ago by @treeve:

A better shot of the memorial than the one I grabbed off streetview:

What a good idea,l expect many people walk pass this monument and do
not realise its origin or read it's inscription.
