I am not at all surprised at this ... the shingle beach has been altering shape for this last year quite dramatically, allowing the water line to encroach and for the depth of water at shore line to increase. The seawall was demolished completely here in 1895, the remains of which are again exposed in full (before, there was just the outline to be seen). Level after level of shingle has been piled, to allow the next good blast of wind to lift water well beyond the new pathway. The next three days will be critical as far as tide height is concerned. Just hope the wind settles. The strength in the depth of sea is immense at the moment.
