This show the view to Mousehole across the bay with the bathers' safety path to the sea - no takers today! - and Barber's Pool (left of path) where they can take a dip in cold water regardless of the condition of the sea.
As boys, we used to catch Bullcods (or BullSods!)) with trout hooks and lines bought from Taylors the Barbers in Queens Square (they sold all sorts!!) mayhaps that is how the pool got its name?? Remember the schools of Scad and Red Bream that used to troll around the harbour at high tide after the gates were shut? We hooked em up by the score. Used to stuff them behind the roller doors of what was then the wharehouses fronting Wharf Road opposite the old Trinity House Depot.
I enjoyed this reminiscence! I think the name was bullcod . The biggest fish I ever caught was a scad from that dock and I remember the bream but I didn t know where the name Barber s Pool seems to have come from! Thanks!
