Bench end depicts a St James pilgrim -St Levan's Church - 17May10

The broad-brimmed hat and scallop shell motif show that this is a pilgrim bound for Santiago de Compostella in N.E. Spain where the remains of St James the Greater, the apostle, are encased in a silver casket. Many pilgrimages started out from Cornwall in the Middle Ages.
