The South Quay (built 1817-1819) - Harveys' Shipyards site, viewed from Carnsew Quay.
Above, a picture of c1885, showing the ramp, baulk walls and shipyard buildings, all gone.
The site has been cleared, the near side filled with 100 years of rubble. What is to be seen under this rubble holds great interest.
To the right of the old picture can be seen the wall of the channel. This will show in other pictures of this series.
Where the timber trestle shows in the present day picture is slightly to the right of the left end of the old picture.
