Clothing Ration Books - 1

Everyone had an allocation of coupons to buy no more clothes than that which they were allowed. The needy were given extra allocation of vouchers.
Each book contained Magenta (R), Olive (T) and Crimson (Z) coupons
Today there would be a black market for this book. This book brings home just how much men, women and children suffered. Just look at your teenager and see what they have now ;)

Oh, but there was; and it took food away from the soldiers, sailors and airmen, as well as from the poor and needy; the police had their hands full. Food and Materials were stolen from Forces Stores, as well as from Warehouses and farms. In times of conflict and deprivation true colours fly.

I myself have seen nothing like this before....I wouldn t though would I?...do I take it as you would have to collect 10 tokens before you could buy one piece of clothing? ::17:::12: excuse my ignorance here bit I don t know!!

A person was given the book, the coupons were cut out by the shopkeeper and no-one else, otherwise they were not valid. I don t know how many were required for each piece of clothing, but I suspect some Government list was made and stuck on the item, with the shop price. All rationing ceased in 1954.

My father being small in stature bought boys shoe's
with his stamps, if I remember right he took size four....
