Causewayhead

Here we have a picture of Causewayhead and you can see a Newlyn Laundry van parked on the left, Jaspers on the right...Sound Check also on the right, and does anyone remember Kentucky Fried Chicken? You can just make out the sign on the left hand side going down Causewayhead.

I remember the Kentucky fried chicken! also does anyone remember a womens clothing shop (i think) that had a sign made from kind of sparkly purple glitter? it sticks in my mind from when i was a little kid...

Does anyone remember the newsagents on the left just before a garage and about two doors up from where Kentucky Fried was/is located? My Uncle Garfield Tonkin owned it way back when. I think it is still there but I'm not sure it is still a newsagents.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's next door down to Walkers Jewellery, and used to sell bikes, I remember it from earlier years when in S.W.E.B. )which is/was now waves) and we used to get papers and fags from there.

You're right there was a bike shop next door! There was Uncle Garfields shop, then a bike shop (which I think now sells kitchen equipment) then there was a garage and I can't remember what came after that. I also had a Great Uncle who owned the bakehouse at the top of Causewayhead when I was a kid. His name was Bromley Tonkin. I think the bakery is now a antiquarian bookstore?

There also used to be a florists in the same vicinity. They had a large dog, I think a chow, which looked like a lion to my childish eyes! He used to lie out front of the shop and you had to step over him to get in.

I've looked at the photo again and Uncle Garfield's shop would be about where the van is parked and I think it is the one now painted a bluey green.
