The War Memorial

The war memorial and role of honour, carved in oak by local craftsman Mr. Pezzack of Newlyn, lists all those former pupils who served during the Great War 1914 - 1918. Two hundred and fourteen names are recorded; the names of the nineteen who died are etched into two brass plates, one at the top of each of the panels to the left and right of the centre panel.

What an excellent piece of work - I'd forgotten about this. The sort of thing that barely registered with a young boy in assembly, but age brings a great appreciation for the craftsmanship and the ability to create something as wonderful as this.

There was a large wooden chair situated in the middle, a hand crafted work of art. I wonder where it is now?

In reply to chillywilly's question:
Both the chair and the carved lecturn from which T.C.R delivered his assemblies have survived. I believe both are kept at the top of the stairs outside the present headteacher's office at the old school.
