Today Harvey's World Travel closed it's doors for the last time Tuesday 16th December 2008. Harvey's started off as Pickfords Travel many years ago and some of the staff have worked with this company for 16 years or more.
It s frightening isn t it. Remember the 70 s in Penzance.... The town only stretched as far as Tesco (now Pound Stretchers) in Market Jew Street, after that there was little else apart from derelict plots and closed down shops sad#
yes Penzance had a pretty busy shopping in those days and earlier all I can say is that its a great shame......and ask the last to leave to please switch off the lights !!!!!!
It should be mentioned that Harvey World travel are a flourishing international company on many continents, and Cornwall still has other offices (at least five).
@treeve has a point but we are only reporting on Penwith, and it seems that they chose to close down the Penzance branch giving the staff just two weeks notice bang on Christmas.
Any comments I have made anywhere on this alarming album are from the point that I do not want any litigation following from some over-zealous legal-eagle as far as loss of business or publically perceived viabilty or what might be taken as defamation.
Incidentally, the reason for the anxious looks was that the driver of the vehicle (truck) was parked in such a manner that there was some concern over the approach of two traffic officers - I don t know what they were worried about, cars are left parked all over Penzance with no concern whatsoever ... I have the photographs to prove it.
6 months ago I reported this shop closure, this week Harvey World Travel has announced the immediate closure of all its 16 branches in Cornwall and the company has gone into administration.
