Pound Land

Pound Land move into Penzance and take over the old Woolworth building. The refit of the old shop started this week. As you can see and awful lot of work is still to be done.
It is a very positive sign how many of these premises are coming back to life. I feared they would be empty for years. So, has the upturn started?

Well Woolworths wasn t local, Adams wasn t, nor MandCo. Unique is, Ricardo s Pizzas probably is, the Little Shop is... So, the answer is.... some.;)

Quite - the economy is wildly volatile as is the market; since the advent of not so supermarkets the centre of town has been open to fluctuations in supplies and demand, and falls by the wayside at the drop of a hat. Time was this town was run by wealthy local businessmen with families that went back to the year dot, many were philanthropists, many were a part of local society, they certainly knew the townsfolk and what they wanted, as well as knowing their names, without having to look at the credit card receipt. It will continue now to be volatile. It will continue to fluctuate according to the whim of the advertising network and the gullibility of the public. It will continue to be at the behest of the banks and those that call the tune above them. In other words, it is anone s guess as to how long any business lasts. The real upturn will come whan people can learn to stand on their own two feet instead of running with open hands on bended knees to the loan sharks (including banks). Too big too quick means much more than it used to mean.

And a Coronation Street actor will be there for family fun day on Saturday, so you can guess where I will be!! In the Cornishman it said Andrew Whyment who plays Kirk, on the shop window it says Antony Cotton who plays Sean and has had a chat show on ITV before. So, will have to wait until Sat to see who it will be!

Jean Alexander was the only true talent in Coronation Street. No one reaches her standard.

what is this street of coranation of which you speek. she of last of the summer wine fame. photo opportunity there then
