The one that is pumping there are the big main pumps to empty the dock as quickly as poss. The other outlet is for a smaller pump at the lowest part of the dock, in this case it is just inside the gates, it is a large 3 phase submersible operated by a float switch to pump out any water that gets in as the tides rise, so keeping the dock dry.
Thanks for that - I occasionally see it dribbling; I walked over the front grilles some time ago - in fact I think there is a picture up here somewhere. Looking over the side of the harbour slip, there are two streams that fall away from under the Dry Dock, just near the entrance to the cafe. Helps to work out the old line of rocks before the wharf was built.
