Behind the house on chyandour cliff known as the cliff where francis trevithick, the famous railway engineer, died in 1877. The Admiralty developed their coastguard station in 1886.The tower is very venetian in detail. On each side your find there is a block of coastguard cottages. Its a shame it is out of the way, don t you think?
I have started a web page on the building; it appears it was a coastguard station but accommodation was integral with the station; the tower is more than Venetian as it is modelled on the Tower of St Mark, an extraordinary choice for Penzance. There are two stories concerning Francis Trevithick s House which need checking, by the way.
