In my youth, it branched left into wasseecalled road (ie, I can t remember its name!) while the lane itself gradually petered out into the wooded ground overlooking Chyandour Coombe. I haven t been there in the better part of 30 years, I suppose.
I used to live in the yellowish house in Chyandour Barracks, the one with the balcony, till 1961 and spent many hours playing in the woods to the right of the lane. The lane bends to the left and passes a bungalow once owned by a teacher at the grammar school, a Mr Guard, then Mr Lanxon .It then goes to the large white dwelling visible at the top. This was a home for unmarried mothers til it was taken over by the Police and made into two dwellings for police officers and their families. The first to occupy them were Sergeant Fox and family, and PC Bray the Motorcycle Cop of the era.It was named Brigids Praze in those days.At the time my father ran the TA at the barracks.
Thanks for that interesting information, david. I remember Mr Guard and Vernon Lanxon very well indeed. Were you in my brother Dave s year at school, by the way?
