Abbey Basin and Slip and Coulson's Warehouse

This is a really good one (all the others are excellent, mind you); but I am trying to piece together the history of this area, from the original ownership by the Oxnam family; would you have any idea of the date of this picture?

Hi That name rings a bell with a shop owner from heamoor am i right? let me know as i may have some info that has come to light if it helps...it may not? but what do I know? ::15:

Nay lass, what does a young slip of a girl like you know? Richard Oxnam came to Penzance and built the house at the top of Abbey Street in Chapel Street (big white painted brick one) in 1765 and he was a merchant and shipowner, and his son continued and set up with others a bank, built Rosehill House, and before long, as is the world, fell into debt and moved out of the town, and died near penniless. But he had changed Penzance for the better. I have not traced the rest of the family and their fates.

THANKS!!! I ll send you a bit of info recieved........it may not have been Richard...as you so kindly said what do I know??? happy to help if I can? laugh# ::17:::12:

Your guess is at least as good as mine but I should imagine the age of this snap to be about 1910 perhaps.

Oxnam was a different kettle of fish, apparently. I am going over the tithe map and other maps, as well as etchings and so on .. this seems to be the fourth change to the slip. It would seem to be 1910ish, I was hoping there was a postmark!!

I ll check it against the 1908 OS map and the 1878. It is still a really good picture.
