Ricky, lead vocalist, and his silver wig

This pic was donated by Penzance musician Ricky Barnes himself and was taken at the Barn Club in about 1962. As can be seen, he was pretty cool in his silver wig and shades. The Layabouts were an out-and-out rock band and praised as such by Tom Jones when they played as support band for his act up in Pool, Redruth. Ricky went on tour outside the county as a solo artist later as well as playing many Cornish venues, pubs, halls etc., both as solo artist or with other bands.
I remember going to dances with both Smiler and Rubbish. They were both excellent bands, in case I haven't said that before, SS55!

Thanks tpp, I think bands like Layabouts, Rubbish, Smiler and many others of that era came from a special mould, as today there seems to be very few around doing wat we done. ::11: wink wink....
