FORE STREET, ST IVES - January, 2009

Russia in St Ives!
I do like those matrioshka dolls; I had a set from Moscow back in 1978 (from Radio Moscow); I think the doll on the right is Ukrainian. Some of the greatest films I have ever seen were Russian, as for the music - I balalaika. Hoi!!

laugh# An eye-catching window display too if you re not russian anywhere! I am asking myself what connection you had with Radio Moscow, Treeve! ::1:

I was an SWL (short wave listener) collected QSL cards (proof of receipt of content of programme or of message) from all continents except Antarctica; I gained a fair respect all over the world, contacted many government departments of many countries; took part in many competitions, creative and otherwise, took part in official monitoring of transmissions for Radio Japan. In receipt of silk bound large format books of the most incredible photographs, many local craft souvenirs, LPs, Cassettes, prize 12 day holiday in Poland, Books, maps, postcard collections, stamp collections .... In return they received my opinions on the way they were running their country and being a part or not of the world, its politics and economy, especially in regard to the way in which the unfortunate of the world, of third world, were to be benefitted, etc .... I listened to the entire political gamut, and the entire musical picture of this planet ...... and responded.

Just did my bit to enlighten certain governments of their follies and their failings. Most governments appreciated comment. A few did not; Beijing for example, but they did not close contact. Radio Budapest awarded me with the highest award any person of non governmental or military staff was allowed to receive, for my contribution. Must have got something right. Followed UN speeches and acted upon them. It was a very busy time for me. So, I am proud of the bronze plaque. It was in 1987 that work took a different turn and London Contracts began for me, so I had to drop my activities that I had begun in 1978. I heard for example the broadcasts of Argentine Radio, in which they made very strong claims as to the Malvinas, long before the surprise attack that was announced in Britain, to me it was no surprise at all as they were very clear as to their intentions, so Britain s retaliation was revealed to me as nothing less than electioneering; listening to broadcasts all over the world revealed just what the BBC left out of its broadcasts daily.
I am trying to get my radio back to good order again, but it needs a lot of patient attention. My aerial system brought in New Zealand full strength ... great fun designing the aerial and building it. So much to do ....
