Red brick at St Ives - not your typical Cornish house!

Walk at St Ives and the cliffs westwards on 20th April, 2009
Not your usual Coronation Street style house. Somebody once told me a lot of red brick came into Cornwall when the railway was introduced and were used on the top of later mining stacks as they were easier (and cheaper) to haul up and handle. Whether or not there is any truth in this I could not say.

Well, at Golden Manor near Probus, there are paths in the garden lined with red bricks that were used as ballast by Portuguese trading boats in the 17th century, if I have my facts right.
