Battery Rocks Step

This is the original untouched picture of the strange little step; it had lettering at one time.
Now ascertained VR Jubilee, there was a diving board built here in 1897, this is the commemoration stone.
Roman Numerals or Greek - that is easier than fathoming the local bureaucratic cerebral void (I refuse to use the word brain in their case); it possibly stated no diving . I know BOP has been there, as he photographed our Obsidian Bricks - also a very strange thing to find there.

I have had a couple more looks at this stone ... It is cut in for something at the top. Having spent some time, I can see the inscription reads VR on the top and JUBILEE on the front; that dates the stone to having been placed here in 1897, long before the Jubilee Pool was built. There must be some record on an official level regarding this in Penzance.

It s quite perplexing. We know that Victoria and Albert visited the Mount in 1846, but visits to Penzance, no idea. How long do you suppose the stone has been affixed there? I m a little surprised that the action of the sea hasn t dislodged it a long time ago. Maybe it has, and has been re-fixed on occasion.

Certainly it has been cemented in on a new bed, in more recent years, perhaps even after the pool was completed. I have been down there over the years, but have no idea as to its history - I certainly have no memory of any lettering having been there. I am going to try and get better pictures of the stone. Bay Of Plenty also raised the very sensible question as to why there are specialised bricks there, the Obsidian bricks, they need to be recorded better, which I will do.
Question now answered in main heading.
