To get the same view as Francis Frith, I managed to find the tripod marks he left, about four feet out in the road. No Pony and trap, I regret, and no decent railing.
I have done that myself, until I realised just what the i top left would do. I had forgotten the other monochrome picture. I have found in my box another monochrome, which shows the east elevation was decorated in pattern.
