Ha, ha well done Sparky I was wondering. So, Vermin are injurious to game and crops etc. So what do we call a bird that steals food from the hand, stains car paintwork, wakes you up at 4am and attacks viciously for no reason other than having young chicks in no danger from humans 30 feet up in the air! Obviously they aren t vermin but something much worse. Stern management?? Ha, ha,try eating anything in your hand in St.Ives on a summer afternoon and drop your guard. Why should be adopt stern management to oppose this niusance???? They need culling otherwise it s going to get worse.
Trouble is that culling ALWAYS get out of hand, especially if handled by government departments; besides, there are some philosophies that regard Man as a parasite and a drain on resources, let alone as a gross sociological disease. Who decides who shall live and who shall die? What parameters shall be applied to each specie? [insert smiling smiley here]. As to the nuisances, they are Man s fault for devising his specific requirements for his life on earth.... the birds were here first. As to eating in public, I have been doing that for the last 60 years plus, and never had an incident yet with aerial attack or bombardment. [insert another smiling smiley here].
I do not profess to know how it should be done or the logistics involved for a successful culling. Philosophies jamosophies, like it or not man is the dominent and intelligent species upon Earth and it is up to man to control these issues. We are a drain on resources but those resources are only used because we harvested them in the first place. I m sure if the seagulls were intelligent enough to adapt better to life on earth they would certainly be culling us!!!!
