Lariggan Brook Outfall - 10

A pan up the beach reveals the nose of a piece of concrete culvert.
Buried, nearly, and no stream.
13th April 2009.
The water is welled from the brook under the bridge and just beyond; it is then funnelled (!!!! duh) to the culvert under the foreshore, to outfall into loose shingle; there is no weir, no slope and no drop - and it stops, but above rock and clay level; Totally Monty Pythonesque.

It looks to me as if the whole thing has been sealed and mortared, and the only outlet for the brook is via the big shingle blockage. A very expensive set up, and it is as well that we had a dry weekend, or there would have been a surprise flood, which proves that we need to have an extra culvert ...
