Passing from Green Street, Penzance in 1907, to launch from Batten's slip.
Built 1899 Chambers and Colly; 38 x 9.5ft; 5grt; ON424; transferred to Newlyn 1908.
The message holds nostalgia, but it is tempered with the hard lives they had to lead; I have had comments by seasoned lifeboatmen from around the UK and they reckon these men were made of sterner stuff than they can imagine; the word used is also stalwart, their courage knew no bounds. I replied, but you carry on that tradition - to which the comment returns, but look at the equipment and back up they had .... in a biscuit barrel and on your own in the teeth of a hurricane, with no contact except shouting to your mates.
