Gurnard's head
There is a constructed ditch across the narrowest part of the promontary,
and other finds have pointed to the fact of this being a cliff fort of the iron age.
A curiosity is the fact of its name Trereen Dinas, and it is close to the hamlet of Treen, this on the north coast of Penwith.
On the 17th November 1893, a great storm occurred, many ships were wrecked, the Hampshire on route from Liverpool to Cardiff,
was taken by the gale from Lundy Island and swept in to St Ives Bay, all crew were lost
except James Swanson who was swept in a ship's boat to Gurnards head, where it had capsized.
1954 saw the Traute Sarnow wrecked in fog, the crew rescued.

In 1896, the Alexander Yeats, a Liverpool barque of 1,589 tons, on her way from Savannah, she was instructed to discharge at Devonport,
then having been swept at Milford and nearly wrecked, she was under tow from the tug Gamecock and the gale broke her from the tug.
Swept down channel, until Wolf Rock could be seen, but the storm turned and she was swept back towards St Ives Bay.
The cargo had shifted, making her difficult to handle, and she limped by St Ives and in heavy seas, she headed straight into Gurnards Head.
The crew and cargo were saved.
1897 saw the destruction of the schooner Margaret and Mary, again her crew were all saved.
Unlike the fate that befell The Quatre Soeurs foundered off Gurnards Head in 1868, when all crew and passengers were lost.
