Polwithen - 6

Polwithen House was built c1870 for William Bolitho. The estate was sold 1905 to Clements Inn Safe Deposit and Contract Co; The house became The Riviera Palace Hotel; extended 1916 by Oliver Caldwell, and became a girls' school 1918. The estate was laid out by Cowell, Drewitt and Wheatly in 1905 and plots sold and developed. Amongst the drawings, there are these photographs. A view from the House with ornamental garden.
It looks very grand! Does it still exist today with grounds like this? I don t know it? Could it be Bolitho School, once St Clare s?

Some of the original grounds still exist, but it has suffered the usual necessity of extensions. Th emajority was developed into Clements Road and Kings Road - originally the top was to be York Road, but is now named Landeryon Gardens. I have been planning a visit up there, but there are so many things to do. Yes, Bolitho School.
