Charles Lavin's Drapers.

Bottom of Causewayhead, corner of Greenmarket; replaced by Midland Bank.
This building dates from c1865.
The stone setts are still seen in 1890.
The Market Cross was thirdly placed about where the corner of the setts is seen in the middle of the road. Next door (now Andrewartha's) was included in Lavin's property and was originally The Three Tuns.
The Egyptian House (originally Hall) is on property previously owned by James Tregarthen, Master Mariner, of St Mary’s Isles of Scilly. The land and buildings were purchased 3rd April 1835 by John Lavin. The building was erected for John Lavin, shortly after. As to whether or not subsequent family members occupied Egyptian House, my last cover was for Frances and her son Edward in 1861.
