Carnsew, Hayle - 01

The whole of Hayle harbour, its quays and pools, the sand, silting and channels are the result of protracted and heated arguments between Harveys and CCC, including building to block access, demolition of built work as it was being built, confrontation both legal and physical to the extent of the Riot Act having been read when pitch battles took place between hundreds of men. This extended over many years, the result is the arrangement we see today. But not before the route of the river having been changed and many piles of slag having been dumped to change water flow and foot access across the sands from Lelant (remember there was no Hayle Causeway at that time).
Left - the original Carnsew Quay; Right - Harveys' Shipbuilding Yards.
Grand job, sir ... there are more to come, of the tide gates, and so on ....
