Hayle Estuary, at the end of The Spit, where is placed a seat, in memory of Jimmy Andrewartha, Foreman of Hayle Harbour. A poignant and generous memorial by the family.

Geologically speaking, any narrow body of land (in a body of water extending to the sea) or extending underwater for any length is called a spit - take Spithead for example. Spurn Head, has been moving for centuries, also a spit . Without this finger of rock and slag, the confusion of water flow would soon break up all access to the estuary and channels.
