When doing my GCSE in photography at Penwith College, I found two old glass negatives in one of the drawers and printed this picture off. I suppose it is too much to try to identify the people, but around what year could it have been taken in?
If that is not T Craske in 1920s then (if I had a hat) I would eat it and (if I had any hair) I would pull it all out. I knew him fairly well, as he helped me a lot, and later I had occasion to do some architectural work for him. Always the perfect and fair gentleman, but he knew how to run a school. More like him please.
Difficult to tell really! I ve done a little research and he was born in 1907. So, if that is when this photo was taken he would be the child and that would be his father s knee he is sat on. Or if the photo was taken in 1925, he would be 18 years old with a fine moustache!
You will need to go to records for the Derbyshire area .. Thomas Craske Rising married Julia Ethel Rodway-Barnes ( Tean ) in Crosshill. TCR died 23rd February 2004, aged 97; Tean died 18th March 2008, aged 98. There may well be relatives still in the Derbyshire area.
I ve been agonising over just why the face rings a bell so loudly. The eyes remind me of a fellow school chum by name of Cotton from Newlyn, whose father was the Harbour Master there once. It might be his grandfather. I can t say I see much of Mr Rising s features in the chap with all due respect, but who knows!
