I came across this, which was chanted at the Newlyn Riots; Penzance boys up a tree, Looking as wisht as wisht could be, Newlyn buccas, strong as oak, knocking em down at every stroke ; bucca was given as scarecrow, and I searched though many sources, an etymological semantic tour, eliminating buccaneer, as that term was younger than bucca, it all came back to scarecrow, in the strong sense of what they could do.
