A pink limo by the bus stop

Newlyn Bridge. 17 July 2009
Just wondering do these have to have long vehicle warnings on the back? I bet it would be fun trying to get around the McDonald s drive through.

What, precisely, is the point of these? And, why is it parked at a bus stop, near a bridge on a corner? Typical it s american, new, and in colour - so it must be good . When did we become the latest State of the US of A? When did our roads become 16 lane highways?

It wasn t parked, it was moving on through! I was taking a photo then saw a flash of pink and quickly took this. It was last day of school yesterday, lots of limos were out and about giving children a special day . I even saw a stretch Hummer outside a school yesterday. I didn t know there were any in Cornwall!

Think you ll find the Hummer and this one are from the Plymouth area, the Hummer definitely is.

Sorry could not see the driver shape. But my question still stands - why? Besides the various structural problems, licencing and insurance dodges, that go on, some are at risk from gas build up (from American imports), some manufacturers refuse to accept responsibility or even to accept that they are cars from their own production. These are buses, if over 8 passengers, and must be licenced as such. There are a few stretch limos around in Cornwall of the smaller variety for weddings, etc. Very stable and safe.

Afraid I can t answer the question why? It definitely stems from the American culture of everything bigger, basically it s an oversize minibus, but I don t know how many it carries. I think after 12 you need a minibus licence.

As I say, the law requires that a vehicle over 8 passengers requires a bus licence. And the notice is required to be shown on the vehicle in full view.

From the 1st January 2008, all UK limousine operators are legally bound to ensure that their limousines are licensed to operate for hire or reward. In a nutshell, this means that they will have to apply for a Private Hire Licence for their business and limousines through their local authority. I believe that means that they can carry up to a maximum of 11 paying passengers provided that there is suitable seating and safety belts fitted for the passengers. Limo s that can cater for 12 or more fall under the PSV licence. In either case the company will need an operators license. Strictly speaking, if this vehicle was equipped to carry 12 or more passengers it can use the bus stop. Also in some council controlled area s Hackney licensed vehicles can also stop and pick up fare paying passengers from bus stops provided that they have applied for a route and had that application granted.

Still, on the lighter side of this picture........NICE ONE DENANMOR..... Good to see your handy work on here...... well spotted! laugh#

Have just read a number of other local authority websites and the BBC covering current situation, and they quote 8 seats as the limiting factor, they also require a Certificate of Initial Fitness.

Come to think of it you may well be right treeve... I haven t looked at the licence for a while so My figures might be out..... but the principle is the same.
