Now this was a good place to eat. We had some enjoyable times here and I thought I would never see it again. Thanks denanmor.
This was a successful business brought up and turned in to the Chinese Emperor. I never visited the Chinese Emperor so I can't comment on the food and hospitality, but I was in the market to but a restaurant and was shown it recently... I could see why it fail in one glance. The place was completely redesigned and the family feeling and comfort completely ripped out of it.
It had hard wood flooring, strong halogen lighting and wide open spaces. It seems that whom ever instigated the design of this new restaurant forgot the basics.
If I can get a picture of what it looks like now I'll upload the comparison... unless someone already has one

Went there the once, bearing in mind he was a client of the people I worked with; the veg was half missing and the potatoes were cold. Good piece of steak though. Rather liked the Chinese Emperor for meals, excellent, not as good as Sea Palace, but plenty of it and run by some lovely people people, as is Sea Palace. However, the interior was rather bleak in Chinese Emperor.

I thought Fletchers was great. Had a few meals there including a thirtieth birthday party. It always seemed to be busy and popular, can't understand why it closed. In comparison, although I had several take aways from the Chinese Emperor, I never ate there and heard mixed things from those who did. Whenever I picked up my order the place was usually deserted. Shame, as it still had the great location and Chinese food is always popular, but I agree with Treeve, it was bleak in there. All the cosy kitchness of Fletchers ripped out for a minimalist look which didn't appear too inviting. Wonder what, if anything, will go in there next.
