The Harbour, Penzance

A lovely shot of the wet dock and quay. No date.
Nice one, black MTB, I think there were two of them here around 1950; is that a Jarrold card? No Meadery - used to like going in there for a meal. Take a look at the Dolphin pub with all the render before it was ludicrously hacked off.
Actually - I think this may be a Fairmile RAF Rescue Launch in the dock.

The car is a Wolsley with the then new Farina body. I believe it was owned by one of two brothers who came to Cornwall from Bolton to dive for Crayfish. The inner motor cruiser, I think is the one the other brother and a friend had bought from a man and his German wife in Mousehole as I recall it was named Westfalia after the region in Germany where the wife had been born. Around 1967. laugh# laugh#

Not that I remember, it seems that, looking at the image full size, some of the areas may have been touched up, either that or they had just been painted, Looking closely at the Wolsley, I believe the registration number ends with 875C which would make a 1965 register (I think) pity we can t see the first letters, may have been able to trace it. just noticed the Hillman Imp behind. laugh# laugh#

Compared with a sound two-bedroomed terraced house in Pendeen parish (Water and electricity mains connected but no gas or sewer), which my mother bought for £700 in that year.

I would think around 1967/8? I do remember that time because I was the only full time Cornish Craydiver amongst all the other up country blokes and we used to have our keep pots out/inside the docks. Sometimes we would get a dyer (crayfish that died in the keep pot)and take it to Ray at the Waterside and he would cook it for us in his own way. (split it down the middle, layer butter, sprinkle with salt and black pepper and cook under grill for 4 minutes, bottle of chilled white wine) Fantastic times, badly missed (by me).
