Saw this in Morrab Gardens and wondered what the holes were doing there. To inject something that would kill off the stump, perhaps? Any suggestions anyone?
Mystery solved - the holes have been drilled for insect habitat. This is by the pond near the Morrab Road entrance and has recently been stocked with a selection of small fish. Kingfishers have been spotted ::6:
AH - I should have been clearer! Holes drilled by man for the insects to spend winter in. Apparently, the holes should have been drilled in the side of the stump as where they are now, they'll fill up with water when it rains. Kingfishers have been seen attracted by the small fish in the pond. I'd love to see one.
