I have a vague recollection of this character from my youth but can neither name nor place him. Does anyone recognise him, know anything about him, or recognise the church?
I m afraid I do not recognize him...or the church, that was going to be my next question do you know where there was taken?....but presumably from the description under the picture you do not know anything about this pic...my Mum is visiting this weekend I ll show her this pic to see if she knows anything
The distinctive sundial over the side chapel tracery (with two rosettes and quite fine lead camework) is one big clue, as there are not that many in that position, if at all. Three roofs as well. I do not recognise the church, and I will have a look through my books.
I have not been able to identify the church from what I have - I will be therefore visiting every church in Penwith and photographing them all. They will then form a definitive photographic database at a particular year.
I believe dingdongd has identified this church correctly as Sithney. This is, of course, outside of Penwith for which I apologise. I do recall seeing this gentleman down West though and thought the picture likely to have been taken at a Penwithian site. I d still be grateful for an identity if anyone could provide one.
