Can anyone tell the name of the bakers at the bottom of H in the early 70's - or was it Rowe's even then? School lunchtime we'd get rolls from there plus excellent Chelsea Buns, head off to the chippie in Alverton St then make our way to the shelter in Morrab Gardens where Pengarth is now and have a chip buttie lunch.
And the bakers that was near the top of H (The Oven Door?) made chocolate donuts filled with orange jam which were very nice too.
There was no Jamie Oliver keeping an eye on kid's lunches in those days!
H = Causewayhead
I have an early memory of going in for coke and a bun with a friend and his mum in the early-mid eighties. Not long after these buildings were demolished and I couldn't remember exactly where this cafe was. This picture answers that question, so many thanks for uploading it!
Has anyone noticed that W H Smith may well have encroached? I've just been looking at this picture and compared it with one of today and the building is far more in to the road than it is here.
