My wife, her father was a master baker and cake decorator, her family history included flour millers and bakers of Nottingham, she had an inborn talent. She called for my help in some matters of design, but she was the cake maker.
And fine looking cakes they are too. A bit of a lost art on the home front these days I imagine, when for convenience, most people would order and buy such cakes. Though with money being so tight nowadays, perhaps we'll see a return of more home baking. Not a bad thing, in my opinion.
The perfection was in the cake itself, although the decoration followed a tradition of the expert touch - it was the cake itself. My father in law had three different types of cake mix, at least. Birthday, Christmas and Wedding. They had to be nade and wrapped (baking paper and foil) two or three months before icing them. He knew the differece between a ready made and a real cake.
